Meet the florist: Petrina Burrill
January 2026
Hello, flower lovers!
Flowers have the amazing ability to bring joy to everyday moments. Think of the times you’ve observed morning light filter through soft petals, or admired a selection of blooms put together just so. Flowers enrich our lives with their beauty, whether we encounter them in the wild or in a thoughtful arrangement … So this year, I’ve chosen to celebrate the simple joy that flowers bring us and to embrace the quiet happiness that can be found in nature to create my 2026 Happiness Blooms collection.
In the development of this range, I have had the great pleasure of collaborating with Petrina Burrill, a passionate gardener and florist I first worked with on my 2023 planner. If you’ve been following Typoflora for a while, you may already be familiar with Petrina; she’s known for her glorious home garden in suburban Melbourne, stunning floral arrangements and joyful spirit, and is much adored by the flower lovers of Australia – including me! Her work has been featured on Gardening Australia, The Design Files and by Petrina herself on her gorgeous Instagram profile (@petrinablooms). She is a true inspiration, and her garden is a floral paradise bursting with life, colour and Petrina’s boundless sense of wonder. Her vibrant personality shines through in every bloom! And with her instinctive eye for colour and texture, Petrina thoughtfully handpicks flowers from her own garden to create arrangements that feel effortless yet deeply personal. Her floral designs are a reminder of life’s simple joys, and the way even a single bloom can brighten our day – which is my aim for the Happiness Blooms collection.
To bring floral happiness to you in 2026, I’ve used a blend of delicate linework and gentle hues to illustrate twelve of Petrina’s favourite flowers, each of which she grows in her magnificent garden. Alongside my illustrations, Petrina shares her personal reflections on growing, tending to and loving these enchanting blooms. By combining Petrina’s insights and my illustrations, we both hope to inspire you to explore the joy flowers can add to everyday moments – through journaling, getting creative or starting your very own garden. This planner is more than just a tool; it’s a space to reflect on what makes you happy, to explore your creativity and to record the beauty that can be found around us every day.
Our flower for this January is the delicate cupcake cosmos. Here are some of Petrina’s words for you to relish.
CUPCAKE COSMOS
Each bloom of a cupcake cosmos is a delicate teacup of soft crimped silk floating on a slender green stem. Her translucent pinks and whites catch the light, with her tiny centres shining like golden suns. This cosmos dances in the breeze, swaying with a grace and charm that seem otherworldly. They are Mother Nature’s poetry, effortless and enchanting, drawing butterflies, bees and admirers alike into their spell of gentle beauty. I, too, would visit them often if I were a butterfly.
