Meet the florist: MADDY FALVEY

June 2023

Hello, flower lovers!

This month we feature Maddy Falvey, the talented woman behind Ellebore floral studio, located is Killarney Heights, NSW. The name ‘Ellebore’ is inspired by Maddy’s favourite flower: the hellebore, known for its delicacy and strength – not unlike Maddy herself! Maddy’s stunning floral designs exude generosity and celebrate beauty. She believes in letting every bloom have its moment, a philosophy that is amply illustrated in each and every one of her artful arrangements.

Flowers have always played an important part in Maddy’s life, but it was not until 2006 that she turned her passion into a career – and she’s never looked back! Now, her bouquets and floral designs are in high demand for weddings and special events.

I love Maddy’s use of kaleidoscopic hues, often beautifully showcased on her studio’s signature pink shelving (which has definitely caught my eye!) and her use of wildly romantic blooms in pastel hues. I also love the way she incorporates plenty of texture and sculptural elements in her work, weaving flowers into gorgeous arches or other forms.

Our flower for June is Maddy’s favourite: the hellebore. Here’s what Maddy had to say when I interviewed her for our 2023 Planner.

1. Which flower inspires you the most and why?

Definitely the hellebore. They love the cold (like myself), are temperamental but hardy. They always have a way of shining bright any time they are used.

2. Can you share any fun facts about hellebores?

If they’re looking wilted, hellebores love being fully submerged in water and having a good drink. Also, keeping the water in their vase fresh is best for these babies.

3. Do you have any tips when styling hellebores?

Use them en masse, all the way!
