Meet the florist: EDWARD WEST

Hello, flower lovers!

May is here and, at last, so is autumn! After an extended summer, the weather has finally cooled, bringing us the glories the change of season has to offer. This month, our feature florist is the ever-busy Edward West of Poho Flowers in Sydney’s CBD. Poho Flowers is a Potts Point institution and has gone from strength to strength with Edward at the helm – so much so that in 2022, this talented floral designer opened a second store in Double Bay.

Poho’s elegant contemporary floral styling makes it a go-to store for everything from breathtaking bouquets for all occasions to stunning arrangements for wedding, events and corporate spaces. So much beauty! And if that doesn’t keep Edward busy enough, not that long ago he also launched Edan, a store that takes a fresh look at flowers and what they mean to us – a concept close to my own heart!

I love the way Edward and the experienced Poho team work together to create gorgeous arrangements using quality blooms. The shop’s signature blue wrapping paper and unique styling makes Poho’s work instantly recognisable, and the team’s care and creativity shows why this long-established floral studio is so loved by the community.

Our flower for May is Edward’s favourite: the poppy. Here’s what Edward had to say when I interviewed him for our 2023 Planner.

1. Which flower inspires you the most and why?

Poppies are pure joy. They have such amazing movement and the most beautiful vibrant colours.

2. Do you have any tips when styling poppies?

I would use poppies en masse or as a playful accent to add a little burst of colour to an arrangement.

3. Any favourite combo you love to do when styling with poppies?

It’s best to use a combination of open and closed blooms so the full life cycle and theatre of the poppy can be enjoyed.
